Just a few thoughts from a simple girl as I try to plan a wedding amidst the craziness of my life...

About Me

My photo
I am 25 year old getting ready for our nuptials on May 01, 2010. I am currently a graduate student majoring in Occupational Therapy. I love to write and I love weddings (well I used to). I thought it would be a great way to blend a few of my loves into a blog. Sit back and enjoy while I attempt to juggle planning a wedding on a budget while doing schoolwork. So let the madness begin!!

Bridesmaid Dresses? Maybe...

New layout, the other was too boring. I'm not in love with this one but it'll do until my fiance builds me a better one. Anywho, I'm really excited that I got new followers. For a while I thought I was rambling to myself and I was fine with that; but now the pressure is on for me to add some insightful and interesting posts.

I was on Jcrew.com and found some dresses that I liked. I don't want the bridesmaids to be too fancy and I like a simple look. Of course, I'm not picking out the dressing, I'm simply picking a designer and color. I like JCrew because some of the prices are reasonable; which I can relate to because I remember paying for my bridesmaids dresses that still hang in my closet. AND ( I know every bride says this, but its true) the girls can wear them again. Here are the ones that I like. I might pull a Bridezilla and tell them they have to pick. I'm still waiting for their responses.

I also love Jim Hjelm. Those are more on the expensive side but so pretty. All of the girls like the one I chose a while ago (the tan one with the bow on the side).

The debate continues...Silk vs. Fresh Flowers...

I was watching another episode of My Fair Wedding with celebrity wedding planner David Tutera and silk flowers came up in the episode. Unfortunately the bride had the ugliest silk flower arrangement ever and of course David was like, silk flowers should never be seen EVER. It was the first time I have ever disagreed with him. It was like a little part of died that day. David said that you should have real flowers at your wedding. I agree fresh flowers are so pretty but why do they have to cost so much money? Its not as if the bride takes all the floral arrangements home with her. What do they do with all those lovely centerpieces? Throw them out? Oh no...oh no...Either I do a silk flower on the tables or do something else. I like the idea of fresh flowers somewhere, I just have to figure out where. But I have to admit, I am partial to roses. I love me some roses.

Silk Flowers: Are they the way of future weddings?

I was talking to one of my classmates and she mentioned how she was planning her wedding on a budget of $7000. I don't have to tell you that nowadays I am obsessed with anyone who is attempting to have a fabulous wedding on a smaller budget. We compared notes and she mentioned silk flowers. I heard of them so I decided to research them myself. And they didn't look half bad. While I do like "real" flowers, I don't love them that much. Silk flowers are wayy cheaper and it cuts out the cost of going to a florist for my bouquets and centerpieces. So that a new option. The boutineries and corsages are less than $10.00!
I found all this on the Brides's Bouquet which I promptly book marked. I have so much wedding stuff bookmarked, its out of control! My computer might crash from wedding overload...Knock on wood. lol...

Can you tell that they are silk? More importantly, do I really care?

Ahhh!! They also have options for centerpieces! Do you know what this means? It means, I can order everything now and just store it away until later. That would be one more thing to cross off my list...And I could get real flowers for my bigger decorations pieces...hmmm...the wheels are turning...maybe saving money isn't that hard. See, I'm interested in saving money but I still want everything to look classy and elegant.

Blogger Galore!

I have not been blogging for a while because as usual things have been crazy with school and things have been pretty much at a standstill with the wedding. But I got a renewed vigor to blog thanks to one my dearest friends becoming a new follower and restarting her own blog, which I love and I'm not just saying that because I know her. Its very inspirational and always brings me back to earth.

So, whats new in my life. I am a blogger on another website now called PNN.com and I highly recommend it. You get to read all these posts from other people and there are tons of people to comment on your posts. Honestly, I like it better than facebook and its more stimulating than staring at people's pictures. My link is
http://conchitaalonzo.pnn.com/13006-the-front-page
in case you ever want to check it out. I'm supposed to be vying for a position there but its soo much fun that I just enjoy doing it. And this is a pretty calm week for me so I have the opportunity to blog a lot.

I found a few things that might work well for the wedding. This is a picture of some centerpieces. It takes the basic concept of flowers and makes them a little more unique.

I also found this amazing website where you can design your own place cards and etc before you purchase them or in my case, design so I know how to do it myself. I'm considering becoming a DIY kind of bride. I don't really feel comfortable just having other people do everything, I am semi creative and I would like to add some of my own touches at the wedding.
Its called After Your Party and its kinda cool. I also like that you can use this site for any event, not just weddings. So your next birthday party or whatever, you should check them out!

Ok i'm done plugging for these people. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I have actually been quite the busy bee in my absence. The question of my life right now is whether I should have a wedding planner or just go to an event design company. I found a really good wedding coordinator that I like and I found this event design company that does it all. They even do flowers! Doesn't that mean I should just cut out the middle man? I am leaning towards the event company but I would still need a Day of Coordinator. I don't want anyone stressing me out with table mishaps or people who weren't invited trying to get in, and I know those things will happen. Does anyone know of a good Day of Coordinator or does anyone willingly want to put themselves in such a position? Lol...

I've got the Itch!

So...I've been really busy lately with school and my semi planning of the wedding. Everything is kind of at a stand still right now until I get the budget sorted out. I made a list of to dos for my maids of honors and I have A LOT of stuff to do. Nothing impossible, just a lot. I would love to hand everything over to a wedding planner but I still want to have a hand in my own wedding. I want to look around and see things that I did. So I am determined to be a DIY type of bride. Here are a few things I found on Theknot.com that I really like so far. Not really sure if I want to use them or if they go with my theme, but I like the way they look.

I've been really thinking along the lines of royal type decor which seems to be more accurately described as French Moderne. The lines are very sophisticated and dainty and that is kind of what is in my mind for the reception and wedding.

This one is kinda cutesy but I think it serves it purpose.

And this is exactly the kind of look I want to capture for the receptions with accents of purple of course, to tie in the whole royalty thing.
What do you think?

So..on a whole other note, I've decided to try and look for another job, one that uses my writing skills. I emailed someone yesterday and I'm actually really excited about it. I don't know if anything will come from it but it will fun if I get it.

So um...I haven't been on in a while due to midterms at school. It was such a crazy week, I think I cried everyday. I don't deal with stress very well, which brings me to my next point.

We went to see the reception place yesterday along with the potential ceremony site and my MOH's met up with us. The woman that I made an appointment with was not there and her co worker could not find her. I was pissed but he gave us the tour anyway. I don't really want to deal with her, but I love the place. Well actually I really love the church, it is absolutely beautiful. If I don't get married there, I may cry. haha. Apparantly the story is that the church got burned down a while ago and they just rebuilt it. Its huge, there are like 3 buildings, but it would be nice to take our pictures...

Funny story, my FI revealed that he finally realized he was getting married when he saw the kitchen where the caterer would be for the reception. Who does that?!

This is the picture of the ballroom with two different table settings. I actually thought they had these settings all the time, until I was told that all they provide is the tables and chairs. Which is fine, it just requires that I haul my ass to figure out if I want a wedding planner. I did some extensive research today and found out that I can rent equipment also. There are a few sites that also do flowers also.

There was one that I really liked because they has sample looks and then broke down everything you would need to rent to complete that particular look. I need to call a few to find out how much this will cost me. I feel like my stress level is going wayyyy up...
Here are the sites I found:
http://partyrentalltd.com/events/events.jsp
http://www.sweetpeaflowers.com
http://www.weparty.com

This was another look I found on one of the above party rental sites. I spent an hour picking out linens on their website to create my unique look.

On other news...did you hear that Rihanna and CB got back together? FI said she has the battered wife mentality. If she didn't leave after he beat her the first time she isn't going to. I think its really sad, they are both soo freakin' young...No further comments on that.

I'm on spring break this week so I anticipate lots of new blogs about my wedding plans!! lol...

25 Things You've always wanted to know about me...

MY bff posted this on facebook and tagged me. I loved hers so much, I created my own, but I didn't want to post it on facebook. I figured it would be perfect for my blog! So here it is...

25 things
1. People think I am so nice, but actually I have a remarkably short fuse. Apparently I get violent sometimes.

2. I am obsessed with celebrity gossip, I have no idea why but I MUST know what Rihanna is wearing every day.

3. Sometimes I have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th thoughts about my career choice. And then I get over it when I think about all the loan money I put into it.

4. I am 25 years old and I still feel like the little girl I was fifteen years ago. If I didn’t look in the mirror, I would never know the difference.

5. I am unabashedly and incandescently in love with my fiancĂ©. I’m not happy every minute, but I’m happy every single day (said so much more eloquently by Charlotte in Sex in the City).

6. My secret dream is to sing at my own wedding to my future husband. Too bad I’ve been told I can’t sing. I think I have a nice voice.

7. I hate talking on the phone with a passion. I’d rather text than talk which is funny because I used to love talking to people on the phone. If you’re wondering why I haven’t answered your phone call, this is probably why.

8. But on the flip side, I love having three way conversations with my best friends. It makes me feel like they are in the same room with me.

9. I love to dance but I hate going to parties. I’m not good at small talk and I’m not good at meeting new people.

10. I can’t wait to see what huge successes my brother and sister will be. I have great faith that they will blow everyone’s expectations out of the water.

11. I hold grudges. I know it’s not good but I can’t help it.

12. My favorite shows are The Bad Girls Club and South Park. Both of these should tell you something about me.

13. Every day I realize more and more that I share some of the same traits as my father.

14. I am convinced that one day I will make some psychiatrist a ton of money just on my childhood memories alone.

15. Currently I am obsessed with everything wedding related and I am not ashamed.

16. Fast-forward a few years and I will have a few fiction novels underneath my belt and then you can say you knew me when.

17. I hate everything about popcorn, especially when it’s burned.

18. I used to bite my nails when I was younger and now they don’t grow in normally. I would wear artificial tips but I chose the career field where those are frowned upon.

19. I have OCD. Seriously, I’m not just saying it.

20. I hate driving and I hate highways. I act normal on the outside but on the inside, I’m freaking out!

21. I can’t tell a decent joke. I’ve tried and I’ve failed miserably.

22. I just found my calling in running. It’s an amazing feeling.

23. I have an alter ego and her name is Conchita Dina Alonzo Morales. The only thing is; she acts just like me.

24. The high school career counselor told me that I wouldn’t get into the top college of my choice. Look at me now.

25. I love my life; it’s only taken me 24 years to say that.
