Just a few thoughts from a simple girl as I try to plan a wedding amidst the craziness of my life...

About Me

My photo
I am 25 year old getting ready for our nuptials on May 01, 2010. I am currently a graduate student majoring in Occupational Therapy. I love to write and I love weddings (well I used to). I thought it would be a great way to blend a few of my loves into a blog. Sit back and enjoy while I attempt to juggle planning a wedding on a budget while doing schoolwork. So let the madness begin!!

25 Things You've always wanted to know about me...

MY bff posted this on facebook and tagged me. I loved hers so much, I created my own, but I didn't want to post it on facebook. I figured it would be perfect for my blog! So here it is...

25 things
1. People think I am so nice, but actually I have a remarkably short fuse. Apparently I get violent sometimes.

2. I am obsessed with celebrity gossip, I have no idea why but I MUST know what Rihanna is wearing every day.

3. Sometimes I have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th thoughts about my career choice. And then I get over it when I think about all the loan money I put into it.

4. I am 25 years old and I still feel like the little girl I was fifteen years ago. If I didn’t look in the mirror, I would never know the difference.

5. I am unabashedly and incandescently in love with my fiancĂ©. I’m not happy every minute, but I’m happy every single day (said so much more eloquently by Charlotte in Sex in the City).

6. My secret dream is to sing at my own wedding to my future husband. Too bad I’ve been told I can’t sing. I think I have a nice voice.

7. I hate talking on the phone with a passion. I’d rather text than talk which is funny because I used to love talking to people on the phone. If you’re wondering why I haven’t answered your phone call, this is probably why.

8. But on the flip side, I love having three way conversations with my best friends. It makes me feel like they are in the same room with me.

9. I love to dance but I hate going to parties. I’m not good at small talk and I’m not good at meeting new people.

10. I can’t wait to see what huge successes my brother and sister will be. I have great faith that they will blow everyone’s expectations out of the water.

11. I hold grudges. I know it’s not good but I can’t help it.

12. My favorite shows are The Bad Girls Club and South Park. Both of these should tell you something about me.

13. Every day I realize more and more that I share some of the same traits as my father.

14. I am convinced that one day I will make some psychiatrist a ton of money just on my childhood memories alone.

15. Currently I am obsessed with everything wedding related and I am not ashamed.

16. Fast-forward a few years and I will have a few fiction novels underneath my belt and then you can say you knew me when.

17. I hate everything about popcorn, especially when it’s burned.

18. I used to bite my nails when I was younger and now they don’t grow in normally. I would wear artificial tips but I chose the career field where those are frowned upon.

19. I have OCD. Seriously, I’m not just saying it.

20. I hate driving and I hate highways. I act normal on the outside but on the inside, I’m freaking out!

21. I can’t tell a decent joke. I’ve tried and I’ve failed miserably.

22. I just found my calling in running. It’s an amazing feeling.

23. I have an alter ego and her name is Conchita Dina Alonzo Morales. The only thing is; she acts just like me.

24. The high school career counselor told me that I wouldn’t get into the top college of my choice. Look at me now.

25. I love my life; it’s only taken me 24 years to say that.

Carribbean women are aggressive and hotheaded?!?

Within all the hoopla of the alleged Rihanna-Chris Brown incident, I have read quite a few gossip sites about how seemingly she deserved what she got. First of all, it bothers me that although no one knows the "truth" everyone has to put their two cents about what happened and why it happened. Honestly, I don't care why they had this alleged incident, it just should have never happened. Domestic abuse is a real thing and there are thousands of women who suffer from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse everyday from a significant other. Instead of these gossip sites trying to find out which jumpoff set off Rihanna, why don't they try to figure out why it would seem that such a young man would hit his girlfriend? There is never an excuse for physical altercation so why are we searching for reasons? Are you telling me that if she said something that bad, she deserved what she got? Bullshit.

I'm also pissed because everyone is bringing up the fact that she is Caribbean and supposedly Caribbean women are aggressive, talk back and crap like that. Once again, fingers are being pointed at her for any reason they can find. I am insulted because I am from the Caribbean and it does not matter how much any woman talks back, they do NOT deserve to be hit. We live in such a twisted society. And its funny because if she was simply African American, they would say that Black women have attitudes and never know when to stop. We live in such a twisted society.

I don't even know why I read these gossip sites, well yea I do...but sometimes they really get under my skin. Conformists.

On a different note, I finally got in touch with my venue and have an appointment at the end of the month. I am sooo freakin excited. My maids of honors may meet me there so it will be a little viewing party. I am praying that it will go well.

Reception venue Pain

So...school is a drag, I think one of my professors hates me, and I've found my dream venue. I found this reception site that I abolutely love via computer. The price is fabulous and the FI approves it. The downside is that the damn venue people DO NOT pick up their phone or return messages. No lie, I have called them at least five times and left messages three times. I actually made human conatact on Friday but my damn cell was losing reception. The lady hung up on me and when I called back IMMEDIATELY after, she did not pick up. It could have been due to the fact that it was close to four in the afternoon and she was probably about to get off, but do I look like I care?

I'm sure their lack of availability should be a red flag for me, but all I want is to visit their venue and see if I really and truly love it. So I'm going to try again tomorrow during my break in between classes.

I'm so tired of school. I'm trying to be positive but I am literally tired. My plans for a relaxing weekend vanished in thin air so I am starting this week on very low gas. Plus the FI is sick and he's never sick, so hopefully I won't be sick either. Because I have absolutely no tolerance for that. And i'm tryin not miss any classes.

School is dragging me down man Part 2

When I wrote this I did not realize it would be a part two but thats life I guess. School is still dragging me down. I'm tired all the time and I miss spending time with my baby. My schedule is all over the place but whatever. I finally bought some books today and I got a lap top!!! I am so excited about that, its been a long time coming. I really have no business writing today because I have absolutely nothing interesting to say, but I had to test drive the lap top.

So the FI and I were downtown and we walked into this huge cathedral. It was beautiful inside and very intimidating. We brainstormed about the possibility of having a "church wedding". He was more against it than I was but he likes the idea of getting married in a cathedral. I got excited because that meant I could invite more people to the actual wedding. But after careful thought, we realized that this would mean that the church would be divided into two parts: the haves and the haves not.
Some would have the reception card and some would not. It might work but knowing my culture, people would bombard my mother with phone calls demanding entrance to the reception or bombard the reception demanding to be granted entrance. Either way people's feelings will be hurt. Haha. So we thought the best plan of action would be to simply invite people who would also be attending the reception also. It would essentially be a "closed wedding", but we realize that there will be a few crashers. We are keeping the church wedding in mind.

So we'll see. Once the budget is set and I get serious about finding the venue, we can start on the guest list. That is the part that scares me the most.

School is draggin me down man.

Started school this week and as usual I am not prepared to jump back into the uber stressful life of reading expensive textbooks just to vomit it all back at the professor in the form of an exam. Ok so I'm being a tad overdramatic. I have been tired all day due to my usual routine of sleeping until my head starts to hurt over the winter break. Being my last semester, I did not think I would have to do that much work. Wrong, this semester is just as hard if not more than the previous ones. Sucks to be me. Looking on the bright side, this is my last semester before I do clinicals.

Another girl got engaged today and we spent our break comparing notes on wedding plans. Am I a dork or what? It was nice to have someone to talk about with, someone who was undergoing the same things as I. I'm in the library wasting time. Its 1 pm and my next class isnt until 5:15. Being as its the first week of classes, I dont have that much work to occupy myself.

Ok i bored myself and you enough. Good bye.

Future Authoress in your prescence

I am a woman who enjoys hobbies, albeit I have dabbled in a few. I am what one would call a serial hobby participater. I like crocheting so I purchased a book and started to create a fabulous scarf. Pretty soon, my scarf started to become narrower and I was unable nor had the patience to fix it. I nixed that hobby shortly after. Then I went through my friendship bracelet phase. I bought loads of yarn and had a grand ole time making intricate knots. My keychains were ridiculous, I could not find my keys. I grew out of that phase, it was a tad juvenile for my taste. The one hobby that has always been steadfast was my love for words. I love to write and create stories. I have seriously been thinking about getting published as soon as i finish typing my stuff up. I am actually starting on a new novel, though I am not sure where I will find the time with school and all this wedding planning business.

Catching Up real quick...

It has been a while since I've been on this thing so lets catch up real quick. I went to my parents house for Christmas and my parents finally began to hound me about the wedding. The messed up thing was that my dad waited until my FI was in his room asleep before he tried to rip me a new one. Lol. I was so upset. He shot down all of my ideas and he completely rejected my desire to have the wedding in Philly. It is so easy for my dad to upset me, it makes me so freaking mad. I should have woken FI up but I wasn't thinking. Basically I cried like a baby and made a fool of myself. I really should have a thicker skin by now especially since this was only the first conversation regarding the wedding, just wait until we have to start putting money down for vendors. Lovely thought. Whatever man, I'm going to city hall.

I left home angry and my mother in law talked to me about the whole situation along with her son. We are def having the wedding in Ny but that is all they get. No compromise on anything else. I have started looking for venues but no bites as of yet.

My birthday weekend was spectacular. We stayed near the mall and I got to do a little shopping, which was long over due. lol. We had dinner at Bahama Breeze which was amazing like I remembered. It was just dinner with my sis and bro in law and our married couple friends. Did I mention that I looked amazing, except I do not have any full length pictures, I was tipsy most of the day...lol... I feel like such a grown up hanging out with couples these days. It was a very low key birthday and I enjoyed myself immensely. Thats the g-rated version by the way...Just kidding!!! I was able to ring in the New Year with new family and friends, as well as my hubby. It was not exactly like I imagined, we had a lovers spat, but it was much needed.

FI always tells me that fights make us stronger, but I have a hard time accepting that until now. That fight was needed because it made us both realize things about each other. I'm not glad we had the fight, but the end results were in our favor.

Other that that, I have my first bridal fitting this week and I am excited. I have been working out so hopefully I haven't put on any pounds. And school starts this week which sucks. But its my last semester in school before I start my clinicals.

I never really make New Years Resolutions because I always break them. But for this year, I decided to make a few that were more realistic. We have been regularly hitting up the gym so my goal is to continue with that. It will get harder due to my change in schedule but I just have to be more diligent with my time management; which is easier said than done. I am focusing more on my hair also. After the perm fiasco; in which I proceeded to give myself my own perm and some of my hair promptly fell out, I vow to take better care of my delicate follicles. This includes tying up my hair when I am at the gym and waking up earlier to look cute. I have been enjoying the fruits of cooking and I am becoming quite good at it, if I may toot my own horn, haha. I can make a few African dishes, now its time to focus on the meals I've eaten since I was a child. I guess that its for my resolutions, can't think of anything else. OH shoot, the most important one, attend church more regularly. I have been very lazy about that and now that I have a vehicle at my disposal, there are no excuses. God has been so good to me, the least I can do is get my butt up for church.

Life is good these days. I am appreciative of my family and friends. Love you guys. OH and to the special man in my life, you know the deal. Happy belated birthday Lips my deelishious one.
